From MIKE POWELL@CAPCITY to DARYL STOUT on Sun Jan 10 10:11:00 2021
I was rear-ended by a pickup truck hauling a trailer, on the right
rear part of my car. That caused me to spin out of control across
to the other side of the road, where another car hit the right front
of my car. The pickup truck that hit me, then hit the car that hit
me, head on...causing the pickup truck to careen into a utility pole.
The airbags in my car didn't deploy, but did in the other vehicles.

    Daryl,
Sorry to hear about your accident! Glad you are ok, though. I got
rear-ended about 10 years ago by a Penske moving truck. The person who had rented it had already sideswiped a woman earlier that day (found that out
from my insurance agent who also handled her claim), drove off from the
scene of our accident, and had another trying to escape through a parking garage that was too small for the truck.

Oddly, I do not think they charged him with fleeing. Although they blacked
his age out on the police report, I was also able to figure out he was using
a borrowed license... he knocked me into another car, and that driver had
gone to school with him. That driver was ~10 years my junior, while the
driver that hit us was supposedly ~10 years my senior, per the license.

I think the cops knew him and gave him a pass. Ultimately, it was Penske
that had to pay the claim (whoever rented it had taken out the insurance).
That was lucky as I suspect he didn't have any of his own.

    Mike

    Mike,

Sorry to hear about your accident! Glad you are ok, though. I got rear-ended about 10 years ago by a Penske moving truck. The person who had rented it had already sideswiped a woman earlier that day (found
that out from my insurance agent who also handled her claim), drove off from the scene of our accident, and had another trying to escape
through a parking garage that was too small for the truck.

In looking at the police report, I tend to believe what the witness
    said than what the drivers said. I did not talk to the other drivers;
instead letting the police officer come to me. I was not charged in
the wreck, and I didn't hit anyone...I got hit by the guy who rear
ended me, then the vehicle that hit me when I was spinning across
    traffic.

Unfortunately, the wreck may have caused nerve damage in my neck.
The chiropractor has noted "quite a bit of degeneration".

I think the cops knew him and gave him a pass. Ultimately, it was
Penske that had to pay the claim (whoever rented it had taken out the insurance). That was lucky as I suspect he didn't have any of his own.

So many today don't want to accept responsibilty.
